Linoleum carving of Slash

Slash is an amazing guitarist from the band Guns'n'Roses. As a lover of Classic Rock I wanted to do a linoleum carving of Slash and then digitally edit it into a tribute poster from a specific concert in the last 1980's. To start this process I looked up many reference photos of Slash to get the overall feeling and proportions I wanted the image to have. For the composition I really wanted the viewer to be closed off within the image, bouncing in a triangular motion between face, bottom hand and then leading up the guitar neck to the other hand. After creating the drawing digitally I transferred it to the linoleum block backwards and began carving the negative shapes I had created. After the carving, I inked the block and began printing, It took several prints to get the best quality image, you can see that printing process below. Finally the print was complete and I could then digitally experiment and explore changing the colors of the print and adding aspects to create a custom poster. Figure 1, shows those digital posters best. Overall I wanted to capture the edge and grit of Slash's personality through a linoleum portrait.
