This project was inspired by a story on time travel and the butterfly effect. In this story Travis (below) is an experienced soldier and time traveler guide, he takes fellow adventurers back in time to experience the past, and in this case the world of dinosaurs. On this adventure the man he is with, Sam (the man in the blue hat) steps on a butterfly as they are being chased by a T-Rex, and the future is forever changed because of it, hence the butterfly effect. Now that you have background on the story I was given this project to create a capturing image for the story and a character design of Travis. I wanted Travis to be strong intimidating  and strangely enough still approachable. I wanted to make sure he had the tools to keep him and his fellow time travelers safe while in the past, such as a gun, knife, water, backpack, and most importantly a watch. As a time traveler you must be occultly aware of time and when it is no longer safe to be in a time lapse. Sam made a miss step, triggering the T-rex into a frenzy in an attempt to escape they venture off course in the image I call "The Chase". In the image I wanted to illustrate the moments right before the "butterfly effect", the chaos that began the spiral. In order to show the connection between Sam, the time traveling tourist, and the butterfly, I made them the same color. The storyline in this project was a driving force in my decision making. Everything from the practicality of Travis's character build and tools, to Sam's unfortunate destiny with a butterfly, all wrapped up in an action packed image that grabs attention and peaks the interest of the viewer.
